The Wall Street Journal has a blog
on health and the business of health. On June 7, 2010, the discussion was about the expansion of Medicaid under the health care reform legislation and how it impacts the use of generic drugs.
In New York, unless the prescribing physician instructs "DAW". meaning "dispense as written", then the pharmacy may fill the prescription with a generic. Some people feel they ave lost any say in what drug they get. The difference in cost, however, can be significant.
It is important to discuss with your physician your feeling on generics so you get the right medication but also consider the cost. Review the blog and offer your own opinion.
